Self-defense at Women in Management
Thursday, Aug. 28: The DeKalb County Chapter of Women in Management (WIM) will meet Thursday, Aug. 28, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at Cabana Charley’s, Sycamore. The speaker will be Sycamore Police Lt. Tom Scott. He will give an overview of women’s self-defense strategies. The program will include character building, conflict management, commitment to survive and thrive. Lt. Scott has been in law enforcement for over 28 years, serving as a juvenile officer, school resource officer, and detective. He also lends his time towards local violence prevention and victim advocacy groups. He has been a part-time martial arts and self defense instructor at Kishwaukee Family YMCA for nearly 20 years. Global Matrix II at NIU
Through Oct. 3: Part of NIU Art Museum’s fall “Global and Local Perspectives” Exhibition Suite, Global Matrix II, an international print exhibition, runs through Oct. 3, in the Rotunda and North Galleries. , Global Matrix II features 87 works representing 75 individual artists hailing from 24 countries around the world. Visitors will encounter a wide variety of visual and technical mastery including aquatints, linocuts, etchings, engravings, woodcuts, mezzotints, screenprints and works that combine several of these processes. Digital prints, photo-etchings and hand-made books are also represented. The panel discussion, which will be co-moderated by NIU art professors Michael Barnes and Ashley Nason, will include artists from the exhibition, as well as the curators and organizers and will be held in room 315, Altgeld Hall, at 6 p.m. The
