Global Matrix II at NIU
Through Oct. 3;
Part of NIU Art Museum’s fall “Global and Local Perspectives” Exhibition Suite, Global Matrix II, an international print exhibition, runs through Oct. 3, in the Rotunda and North Galleries. Developed by the Purdue University Galleries in West Lafayette , IN , Global Matrix II features 87 works representing 75 individual artists hailing from 24 countries around the world. Visitors will encounter a wide variety of visual and technical mastery including aquatints, linocuts, etchings, engravings, woodcuts, mezzotints, screenprints and works that combine several of these processes. Digital prints, photo-etchings and hand-made books are also represented. The panel discussion, which will be co-moderated by NIU art professors Michael Barnes and Ashley Nason, will include artists from the exhibition, as well as the curators and organizers and will be held in room 315, Altgeld Hall, at 6 p.m. The NIU Art Museum is located on the first floor, west end of Altgeld Hall. Hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday, noon-4 p.m. Group tours may be arranged by appointment. For more, visit www.niu.edu/artmuseum.

“Back to the ‘80s” with Children’s Community Theatre
Sept. 26-28: “Back to the 80s,” is
a “totally awesome" hit musical brought to the Egyptian Theatre by Children’s Community Theatre. The show tells the story of the senior class of William Ocean High School that graduated in the 1980s, as remembered and seen through the eyes of Corey Palmer, now in his 30s. Featured songs include “Footloose,” “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Material Girl,” “Kids in America,” “Love Shack,” Total Eclipse of the Heart,” “Time of My Life, and many more. Performances are Friday-Saturday, Sept. 26-27, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 28, 2 p.m., at the historic Egyptian Theatre, North Second Street , downtown DeKalb. “WALL-E” event benefits RAMP
Sept. 26-Oct. 2:
RAMP and Sycamore Theatre have announced that the $2 showing of “WALL-E” at the theater in Sycamore will benefit RAMP. Showings will be Friday, Sept. 26, 4:15 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 8:45 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 27-28, 4:15 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 8:45 p.m.; and Sept. 29-Oct. 2, at 6:30 p.m.

Sept. 27-28: Jonamac Orchard will celebrate Great Pumpkin Harvest Weekend Sept. 27-28, featuring live music Sept. 28. The orchard is located at 19412 Shabbona Rd., Malta. Veterans’ job workshops
Monday, Sept. 29:
The first of a series of Veterans’ Job Search and Information Workshops will be conducted Monday, Sept. 29, 1-3:30 p.m., at DeKalb Illinois workNet Center, 1701 E. Lincoln Hwy., DeKalb. State Veterans’ Employment representative, Bob Sage, retired Chief Master Sergeant, USN, will counsel veterans on developing resumes that translate unique military skills into terminology prospective employers understand and seek. “Taste of Kish
Tuesday, Sept. 30:
The KCH Auxiliary invites you to celebrate the "Taste of Kish ," the Auxiliary Cookbook Fundraiser Dinner Tuesday, Sept. 30, 5-7:30 p.m., in the Roberts Conference Center in Kishwaukee Community Hospital .  A variety of recipes from the Auxiliary's new cookbook, door prizes, 50/50 Raffle, great entertainment, and many surprises will be featured. Help celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of the new hospital. Powerful Tools for Caregivers classes
Tuesday, Sept. 30:
A caregiver is someone who helps a relative or friend with things they cannot do due to the disabling effects of a chronic medical condition or age. It is often quite challenging trying to balance life as a caregiver. DeKalb County Hospice is sponsoring “Powerful Tools for Caregivers,” for people helping relatives or friends. Through six sessions beginning Tuesday, Sept. 30, 6-8:30 p.m., caregivers learn to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, better communicate feelings, and locate helpful resources. Attendees also learn how to increase their ability to make tough decisions and balance their lives.
